About Mental Health
Body-Mind Interplay
Persistent physical symptoms can often feel overwhelming and take an emotional toll. Feelings of anxiety and depression can stem from the uncertainty of a diagnosis, difficulties accessing effective care, fear of falling, and the impact of symptoms on your daily life. Emotional symptoms deserve attention. When you have chronic vestibular symptoms, you can get caught in a loop where stress, poor sleep, avoidant behaviours, unhelpful thoughts, and emotional distress feed into and increase your physical symptoms. Addressing both the physical and emotional aspects of your health can help break this cycle.
In addition to vestibular physiotherapy, interventions such as medications and solution-focused psychotherapy can help reduce chronic symptoms of dizziness. An interdisciplinary model of care has been shown to provide more significant benefit, and our interdisciplinary team includes neuropsychiatry and nursing.
